On Thursday, June 20, Portsmouth attorney Jesse Scott was among 26 Ohio attorneys to graduate from the Ohio State Bar Association’s 2024 Leadership Academy.

The Ohio Bar Leadership Academy is designed to nurture and prepare lawyers for effective leadership in the association, the legal profession and their communities. The interactive training program takes place across a six-month period in six sessions during which participants interact with bar leaders and other professionals, learning about topics such as civility, ethics and professionalism.

“Congratulations to the Ohio Bar’s 2024 Leadership Academy class,” said Ohio Bar 2024-2025 President Dan Griffith. “These graduates are driven, thoughtful and passionate attorneys. I’m excited to see them step forward as leaders in their communities and the organized bar and I’m heartened that the future is in their capable hands.”

The Leadership Academy is limited to lawyers who have practiced law between one and 10 years. Attorneys are selected based on their stated commitment to the goals of the academy, a demonstrated history of interaction with the legal and their own communities and diversity of experience, background and demographics.

Scott is a solo practitioner in Portsmouth, where he serves the counties of southern Ohio, focusing his practice on criminal and family law matters.

In law school, he served as an associate member of the law review and later rose to the executive board managing editor.

Scott served seven years in the United States Army as a member of the Psychological Operations Regiment. After completing his service in the Army, he earned a commission in the United States Navy as an officer and continues his service as a commissioned officer in the Navy as a reservist.

Scott earned his undergraduate degree from Shawnee State University and his law degree from the University of Toledo College of Law.
