Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission shares tips to avoid potential higher toll fares
The Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission transitioned to a new toll collection system on April 10.
Many key changes have occurred across the 241-mile Ohio Turnpike, which include:
• Four new open road tolling plazas – including Swanton Toll Plaza at milepost 49 in Lucas County and Newton Falls Toll Plaza at milepost 211 in Trumbull County – were built with overhead gantries to read E-ZPass transponders.
• All gates in the entrance lanes and E-ZPass exit lanes at the toll plazas were removed.
• Video cameras were installed to capture license plate images.
To avoid potential billing issues, please ensure:
• Your E-ZPass transponder is properly mounted to the interior windshield of your vehicle in accordance with E-ZPass terms and conditions.
• If the signal from an E-ZPass transponder is not received by an overhead tolling reader because it’s not mounted correctly or it is waved by hand, toll customers may be charged additional toll fares.
• Do not wave an E-ZPass transponder by hand. Waving an E-ZPass transponder by hand while driving through the new open road tolling gantries and the toll plaza interchanges will not work and is not safe.

In addition, E-ZPass customers must keep their online accounts up to date by including:
• Full contact info.
• Vehicle license plate(s).
• A valid credit card.
While the goal of the turnpike commission is to accurately capture each trip taken on the Ohio Turnpike, customers are advised to review their monthly E-ZPass statements for any inaccuracies.
