Several Ohio counties – including Highland and Adams – are eligible for federal funds after the severe storms from June 29 to July 2.

The declaration was made official this week by President Obama.

Federal funds will be made available for distribution as needed to assist in state and local recovery efforts.

The funds will be available to state and local governments as well as certain nonprofit organizations for emergency work.

Gov. John Kasich, Senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown and the Ohio congressional delegation sent a letter to President Obama in support of the governor's Aug. 10 request for a major disaster declaration for the state.

The federal disaster declaration applies to these Ohio counties: Adams, Allen, Athens, Auglaize, Belmont, Champaign, Clark, Coshocton, Fairfield, Franklin, Gallia, Guernsey, Hancock, Hardin, Harrison, Highland, Hocking, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Licking, Logan, Meigs, Miami, Monroe, Morgan, Morrow, Muskingum, Noble, Paulding, Perry, Pickaway, Pike, Putnam, Shelby, Van Wert, and Washington.
