Man sentenced for shooting 2 police officers, firing on deputies in Franklin County
Daveonte Dixon, 23, was sentenced this month for six first-degree felony offenses related to the May 2025 shooting of two Mifflin Township police officers and the shooting at four Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Judge Carl Aveni sentenced Dixon to 67-72.5 years in prison.
On June 1, he pleaded guilty to:
• One count of attempted murder
• Five counts of felonious assault.
He also pleaded guilty to two firearm specifications for shooting a police officer, one firearm specification for using a firearm, and one firearm specification for possessing a firearm. Finally, he pleaded guilty to a repeat violent offender specification.
Dixon faced a minimum sentence of 30-35.5 years in prison, with a maximum of 94-99.5 years for this case.
“Today’s sentencing is an important reminder that violence against the men and women who protect our communities will not be tolerated. Mr. Dixon’s days-long violent crime spree against members of law enforcement was reprehensible,” said Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Shayla Favor. “His actions not only endangered the lives of officers and Sheriff’s deputies, but they also jeopardized the safety of Mifflin Township residents by paralyzing the operations of the police department.”
Dixon also faced a separate sentencing for a prior 2023 conviction that included aggravated burglary, possession of a dangerous ordnance and having a weapon while under a disability. Judge Kim Brown sentenced Dixon to 11-16.5 years in prison in that case. That sentence will run consecutively with the sentence imposed by Judge Aveni, for a total of 78-89 years in prison.
“Today, accountability was served,” said Mifflin Township Interim Police Chief Brooke Darnell. “It cannot erase what happened to our officers, but it sends a clear message: those who attack our officers will be held responsible.”
On May 28, 2025, a Mifflin Township Police Officer observed a vehicle blocking traffic in the middle of Agler Road and initiated a stop. A second officer arrived shortly thereafter. During the stop, the front seat passenger, later identified as Daveonte Dixon, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. As the officers pursued him, Dixon pulled a handgun and opened fire, striking both officers before fleeing the scene.
Dixon evaded capture for two days with the assistance of several individuals. On May 30, law enforcement located him at a residence on Thelma Drive. When Franklin County Sheriff’s SWAT officers attempted to make contact, Dixon fired multiple rounds from a rifle — targeting four deputies outside. When gunfire ceased, officers entered the home and found Dixon with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital for treatment. Upon release from the hospital, he was placed in jail.
“Today’s sentence delivers accountability for a violent attack on law enforcement,” said Franklin County Sheriff Dallas Baldwin. “This sentence reflects the seriousness of these crimes and the courage of those who put their lives on the line to protect our community. Thank you to the prosecutor, the court, our deputies, and to all of our law-enforcement partners for their dedication and hard work on this case.”
The following co-defendants in this case have pleaded guilty to obstructing justice and have been sentenced to three years of community control. Each also served a period of custody in the Franklin County Jail:
• Kaitlyn Mellon (served 42 days)
• Grace Mellon (served 49 days)
• Elijah Robinson (served 90 days)
• Au’nusti Solomon (served 58 days)
• Amina Goler (served 180 days)
• Isaiah Ingle (served 50 days)
• Jennifer Dale (served 40 days).
In addition to obstructing justice, co-defendant Nathan Brown also pleaded guilty to unlawful possession of a dangerous ordnance (with a six-year firearm specification) and unlawful transactions in weapons. He was sentenced to a total of eight years in prison.
Co-defendants Latoya Birdsong and Jayla Call’s cases are scheduled for trial.
