Leesburg Veterans Memorial dedication planned for Veterans Day

The Leesburg Area Veterans Memorial committee is busily making plans for the dedication of the Leesburg Veterans Memorial on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2010. Thanks to the generosity and support from Leesburg and surrounding communities, the Committee has raised the funds necessary to build the memorial. Site work and preparation have begun, and the components for the monument and memorial wall have been ordered.
The deadline for submitting names for the Memorial Wall is Sept. 15, 2010. Any veteran living or deceased, who has lived in or attended school in the Fairfield Local School District, including the former Leesburg and Highland schools, are eligible to have their name engraved on the wall free of charge.
The deadline for purchasing pavers, plaques, and benches for installation at the memorial was July 1, 2010; however, these items are still available. Items purchased by July 1 of each year following the dedication will be installed prior to Veterans Day of that year. Names may also be added to the Memorial Wall that are submitted by July 1 of each year.
The public is invited to an "Over the Top" chicken noodle dinner on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m., at the Leesburg fire station to complete our fundraiser activities and celebrate the completion of the memorial. Two quilts, made by Leesburg resident Janet Austen, will be raffled after the dinner. The quilts are on display at the Leesburg Federal Savings and Fifth Third Banks in Leesburg. Raffle tickets may be purchased at the dinner.
Everyone is invited to the dedication ceremony on Nov. 11, 2010 at 5 p.m. A reception will follow at the Leesburg Fire Station.
