Greenfield man sentenced on felonious assault charge

A Greenfield man who has been in prison for nearly six months was sentenced recently to an additional three-year term, after pleading guilty to felonious assault.

Austin Cole Gilroy, 31, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in September and charged with felonious assault, a second-degree felony. The indictment accused him of “knowingly causing serious physical harm” to a victim on or about June 8.

According to court records, Gilroy pleaded guilty to the charge Jan. 17.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Gilroy to a minimum of three years in prison, with no jail time credit. Under the Reagan Tokes Law, that sentence could be up to four and a half years.

The three-year prison term is to run consecutively to the four-year term imposed by Coss in July 2023. In that case, Gilroy pleaded guilty to two counts of domestic violence, both third-degree felonies. At the time of Gilroy’s sentencing in July, Coss said that Gilroy had “an extensive history of violence — one of the worst that I’ve seen.”

Gilroy is currently incarcerated in the Lebanon Correctional Institution and was admitted into prison July 31, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.
