A Greenfield man charged in the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend has been indicted on a murder charge by a grand jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
Kermit E. Gipson, 22, is being held at the Highland County Justice Center. Tuesday a grand jury handed down two charges against Gipson: murder, an unclassified felony with a firearm specification; and tampering with evidence, a felony of the third degree.
Wednesday he was arraigned via video from the justice center, where a motion for an amended indictment was made regarding the spelling of the defendant's name, which was initially listed as Gibson.
Bond was set at $1 million and a trial date was scheduled for April 15. A pretrial date was scheduled for March 17 with a final pretrial scheduled for April 7.
An attorney has not yet been appointed.
As previously reported in the Highland County Press, according to Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, the department received a call at 1:56 p.m. Jan. 20 of a reported shooting at 631 South Street. Upon arrival, officers found a female victim, Judy Mosler, 24, of that residence, had sustained a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Paint Creek EMS transported Mosler to Adena-Greenfield Area Medical Center. Mosler was later transferred to Miami Valley Hospital with critical injuries. Mosler later died at Miami Valley. Officers recovered a handgun believed to be used in the shooting, Hester said.
Gipson was taken into custody following the shooting.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification processed the scene and assisted in the investigation.
"This is just another step in the process," Hester said Wednesday. "There is really no new information or other developments."
