Clermont County Sheriff's Office, Press Release

The Clermont County Sheriff’s Office announced charges against a Batavia Township woman accused of shooting at her boyfriend during a dispute.

On July 26 at 7:40 p.m., the Clermont County Communications Center received a 911 call from a male reporting a verbal dispute with his girlfriend at a residence in the 2200 block of old state Route 32 in Batavia Township.

Deputies from the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office responded and arrived on scene at 7:48 p.m. and made contact with the caller, a 53-year-old male. He advised that he was involved in a verbal dispute with his live-in girlfriend, Rebecca Hounshell, 50, and he alleged she pointed a handgun at him during the dispute.

The man advised deputies that he ran, and while exiting the residence, allegedly heard a single shot, and that he believed a round struck the wall above him. He did not sustain any injuries during the alleged incident.

Additional sheriff’s office detectives responded to process the scene.

Deputies’ attempts to communicate with Hounshell were unsuccessful.

A felonious assault warrant was filed on Hounshell, and a search warrant was obtained for the residence. The Clermont County Special Response Team responded for the execution of the search warrant due to Hounshell barricading herself inside the residence and reportedly being in possession of a firearm.

Negotiators from the Special Response Team established communications with Hounshell, who eventually agreed to surrender. At 10:45 p.m., Hounshell exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident by members of the SRT.

Hounshell was charged with one count of felonious assault, a felony of the second degree, and one count of domestic violence, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

Thee investigation remains ongoing and will be reviewed in its entirety with the Clermont County Prosecutor’s Office for presentation to a grand jury.
