Washington Court House will hold an open house and free health screening on Saturday, August 25.

The event will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Health Center, which is located at 308 Highland Avenue, Suite C, Washington Court House.

Adena staff will offer glucose, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, waist circumference and body mass index screenings and measurements.

Cholesterol screenings are also available. For the most accurate cholesterol reading, patients are asked to fast for 12 hours before testing. Cholesterol tests include: total, HDL, LDL and triglycerides.

Following their screening, participants can enjoy a light breakfast of eggs, fruit, vegetables and refreshments. In addition, the first 50 people screened will receive a free First Aid kit.

Adena Health Center’s physicians and staff are committed to helping patients achieve and maintain good health. Those due for a full check-up may call 1-855-232-9274 to schedule an appointment.

Free presentation on preventing
financial scams of seniors

A fast-growing population of seniors with inadequate resources for retirement poses widespread social challenges and it makes seniors particularly vulnerable to those who would exploit them.

“Seniors hold almost 80 percent of the nation’s wealth, yet their main fear is that they will lose their capacity to live independently. Because of this fear, seniors are a ripe target for the unprincipled and unethical purveyors of financial schemes,” according to Sheila Stearos, Certified Senior Advisor, with Adena Home Care.

Stearos will present a free program titled “Nine Tips for Seniors to Avoid Financial Abuse: A Guide for Seniors and Those Who Care for Them,” on Thursday, August 23, from 12 to 1 p.m. at Adena Home Care, 111 West Water Street, Chillicothe.

“If you’re a senior or someone who cares for a senior, you need to know how to spot the signs of financial exploitation and what to do to prevent becoming a victim of it,” Stearos said.

The presentation is part of a mini-series of educational lunch and learns brought to you by Adena Home Care. Presentations are held on the fourth Thursday of every month. No reservations are necessary. For more information, contact Stearos at 740-779-4663.
