Fairfield’s 11 hits send Lions over Green Devils
A six-run first inning set the scene on Wednesday evening for the Fairfield Lions against their Southern Hills Athletic Conference rival, the North Adams Green Devils. Those six runs were more than enough for FHS to give the Lions a 13-1 victory Wednesday on the road in Adams County.
Fairfield not only led 6-1 at the end of the first inning, but they scored two runs in the top of the fourth and five runs in the fifth for their 13-run total. In all, the Lions totaled 11 hits, but committed two errors. North Adams had three hits and committed four errors.
Dow Moon ended his day with solid numbers, finishing 2-for-3 with two runs, one RBI, one walk, a HBP and a steal. Gabe Fouch finished the SHAC road win at 2-for-4 with three runs, a double and two RBI. Wyatt Collins also had two hits, going 2-for-2 with two runs, one RBI, one walk and two steals.
Corbin Willey was 1-for-4 with a run and RBI, and teammate Landry Hattan was 1-for-3 with four RBI for the Lions.
Cade Miller finished 1-for-3 with a double, one run, one RBI and a HBP. Wyatt Willey was productive at 1-for-3 with two runs, one RBI and a steal. Blaine Fauber went 1-for-2 with an RBI.
Zane Matthews scored two runs, and on the mound he was the winning pitcher. Matthews pitched five innings, allowing one run (one unearned) on three hits, and no walks, all while collecting seven strikeouts. He threw 59 pitches, 44 for strikes, facing 19 batters.
The win improves Fairfield to 7-2 overall.
