Rio RedStorm men’s XC team 4th in RSC coaches' poll

The University of Rio Grande garnered a fourth-place finish in the 2022 River States Conference Men's Cross-Country Coaches' Preseason Poll released by league officials.
The RedStorm picked up one first-place vote and 68 points in the voting by the league's 11 head coaches, finishing one point behind Point Park (Pa.) University for third place. The Pioneers also had one first-place nod and 69 points.
Rio's lone senior on the roster is Austin Setty (Leesburg Fairfield), and the returnees also include sophomore Danuel Persinger (Glouster).
The key loss for the RedStorm was fifth-year senior Cody Booth, who elected to transfer after the conclusion of the spring track & field season.
Head coach Bob Willey's squad opens its schedule Friday evening at the Mike Baumer Classic hosted by Wright State University.
Midway (Ky.) University, which won its first title in program history a year ago, is the pick to repeat the feat this season.
The Eagles, who edged both Indiana University Kokomo and Rio Grande by one point for last year's crown, earned 84 total points and seven of the available 10 first-place votes. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
IU Kokomo, which will host this year's RSC Championship on Nov. 5, was tabbed second with 79 points and was followed by Point Park and Rio Grande.
The top half of the poll rounded out with St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) in fifth with 58 points and Ohio Christian University in sixth with 56 points. The Trailblazers made it four different schools getting a first-place vote.
The rest of the poll had Indiana University East, Alice Lloyd (Ky.) College, Oakland City (Ind.) University, Brescia (Ky.) University and WVU Tech.
