Lions stay in contention, defeat Blue Jays

Fairfield senior Quentin Williams missed just six and a half quarters due to an wrist injury, but more than made up for it on Tuesday night. Not only Williams play in the final 13 minutes at Ripley, but he took over the game and propelled the Fairfield Lions to a 63-58 victory.
The Lions stayed in contention in Divison II of the SHAC, as they moved their league record to 6-4, as they are tied with the Fayetteville Rockets for second place in the conference. Both teams trail the Whiteoak Wildcats, who are in first place in Division II of the SHAC at 7-2.
On Tuesday, though, it was Williams who sparked his team. He entered the game with the Lions trailing by nine points with around 5:00 left in the third.
From there, the entire complexion of the game changed as the Lions scored 19 points in the third and 22 points in the fourth.
As for Williams, in his quarter and a half on the court, the senior totaled 23 points, shooting 10-of-11 from the field. He missed his first shot of the game in the third frame and from there made 10 straight baskets, including two 3-pointers.
Williams was 1-of-2 from the free-throw line.

"When we put Quentin in the game, we were down nine points, but he was in a zone once he hit the court," FHS head coach Everett Snyder said. "We cleared the way and set zones for him, and he made his shots.
"Quentin was feeling it, that's for sure. Winning against Hillsboro really boosted the confidence of this team. Playing without him and winning that game was big for our team, but we know having Quentin out on the court makes us an even better team. Quentin also had some nice assists as well, and he opened up things for others."
Ryan Bates and Gage Montgomery each added 10 points, while Cody Bennett sank a 3-pointer and finished with seven points. Elijah Carmean also made a 3-pointer and scored five points on the night.
Joey Wilson scored four points, while Keith Lamb and Blake Hildebrant each scored two points. Wilson was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Brad Kirschner led RHS with 18 points.
"We outscored them (RHS) in the second half, and we had a much better effort in the final two quarters than we did in the first two," Snyder said. "We didn't turn over the ball as much as we did in the first half, and we got back on defense."
FHS plays at Fayetteville on Friday night.
"Being two losses behind WHS is tough, but we still have a chance in the league if we do our job and get help from others," Snyder said. "We have to take care of our business in our final three league games and see what else happens."
