Lions gain non-conference win over Blanchester

The Fairfield Lions rebounded after a loss on Friday to gain a win on Saturday by defeating the Blanchester Wildcats by a 6-4 score at BHS in non-conference play.
The Lions trailed by a 1-0 score at the conclusion of the first inning and by a 4-1 score after two innings. Once the third inning took place, the momentum of the game swung in favor of the Lions with a three-run third, which was followed with one run in the fourth and another run in the fifth inning to complete the scoring.
Austin Setty was the winning pitcher as he pitched all seven innings in the victory. He allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and two walks. Setty finished with four strikeouts.

Wyatt Willey and Ethan Grooms each led FHS with two hits. Willey was 2-for-3 with one run and Grooms finished 2-for-3 with one run and two RBI.
Having one hit each were Setty (one run), Sam Buddelmeyer (one run, one RBI), Andrew Dingey (one run) and Matthew Spears (one RBI).
“We bounced back today to beat a very good Blanchester team. I was proud of our effort,” FHS head coach Jeremy McGraw said. “Wyatt Willey and Matthew Spears made two great catches for us. It is plays like those that will give and keep the momentum in your favor.
“Austin Setty did a great job on the mound. He did a great job of hitting his spots and keeping them off balance. Ethan Grooms continues to swing a hot bat for us. We have him down in the lineup for a reason, and he is doing a great job.”
