Lions gain homecoming victory over Blue Jays

LEESBURG — Following an even scoring first half, the Fairfield Lions got their homecoming weekend off to a celebratory start as they used a strong second half to defeat the Ripley Blue Jays, 77-59, for a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win.
The first half was an even scoring affair as both teams scored 12 points in the first half and 17 points in the second frame for a 29-29 halftime score.
In the first half, the Lions (5-6) shot 12-of-30 from the field as they also committed 11 turnovers in the first two quarters.
Then it was all Fairfield in the third quarter as they broke out for 29 points while their defense held the visiting Blue Jays (4-4) to 10 points. In the fourth, FHS outscored RHS, 20-19.
"We've been battling sickness this week, so we had a different starting lineup than usual, but in the third, we had our regular starters in, and that made a difference," Fairfield head coach Everett Snyder said. "We put everything together in the third quarter."
In the third frame, the Lions were a perfect 12-of-12 from the field as Quentin Williams was 3-for-3 from the 3-point line.

Williams led all scorers with a game-high 26 points as he finished with four 3-pointers on the night, as he also made four two-point baskets and was 6-of-7 from the free-throw line. Williams is averaging 24.2 ppg in his past four games, scoring no less than 23 points in those four games. This season, Williams, a senior, is averaging 21.7 ppg in 11 games played.
Also in double figures was Gage Montgomery with 16 points as he made six two-point buckets and was 4-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Joey Wilson finished with 14 points with seven two-point baskets. Ryan Bates finished with 10 points as he made five field goals.
Blake Hildebrant and Cody Bennett each scored four points, and Keith Lamb totaled three points as he sank a 3-pointer.
"We've won our last two games, and we'll have a week off until we play North Adams," Snyder said. "North Adams has been playing well as of late, so we have to be prepared when we travel to their place."
Leading the Blue Jays were Jalen Williams with 16 points and Andrew Inskeep with 12 points.
The Lions were 12-of-18 from the free-throw line.
FHS plays next Friday as they travel to North Adams. Following their game at NAHS, the Lions will play on Jan. 18 as they travel to Peebles. The Lions' next home game will be Jan. 22 when they host Manchester.
