Lions defeat West Union in JV baseball action

The Fairfield Lions JV baseball team defeated the visiting West Union Dragons on Wednesday by a 9-6 score.

Leading 3-2 going into the fourth inning, the Lions gave up four runs in the top of the inning before scoring six runs of their own in the bottom of the same inning to seal the win.

The rest of the game featured good pitching, backed up by some great defense.

"Orrie Friend is doing a great job at first base for us this year. He had a couple of great scoops and a diving catch in foul territory tonight,” FHS coach Jason Fox said.

Jeffery Spears started the game on the mound going 3.1 innings before giving way to Nathan Vidourek who pitched the final 3.2 to earn the win.

Vidourek gave up one run (none earned) on two hits. He also had two strikeouts and three walks. Offensively for the Lions, Spears, Vidourek, Brennon Mondabaugh, Friend and Layne Morgan all collected one hit each. Vidourek and Mondabaugh collected three and two RBI respectively, while Logan Rohde and Spears each collected one RBI a piece.

The JV Lions will be back in action on Saturday taking on East Clinton at 1 p.m.
