LC Mustangs win at Fairfield in SHAC match

LEESBURG – In a game where the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs led by one goal at halftime on the road at Fairfield High School, the Mustangs eventually pulled away from the host Lions for a 3-1 victory in Southern Hills Athletic Conference play Wednesday.
In the win, it was LC’s Nathan Brown scoring the first goal of the match in the first half with a header off a corner kick from Garrett Reno with 32:48 on the first-half clock.
That score stood to halftime, with the SHAC-leading Mustangs holding on to a 1-0 lead against Fairfield.
The Mustangs scored two more goals in their SHAC victory in the second half, when Ian Waits and Landon West sent the ball past the keepers. An assist was credited to Reno in the first half and Trey Pitzer in the second half.
At goal for the Mustangs was Isaac Eyre with one save.
For the Lions in the SHAC loss, it was Reese Teeters scoring a goal, with the assist from Zane Matthews
Fairfield keeper Hunter Burns finished with 12 saves.
Since this game, the Mustangs lost to Wheelersburg in a non-conference game by a 4-0 score on Saturday, Oct. 2 at WHS. Overall this season, the Mustangs stand at 8-5-1 and 5-0-0 in the SHAC.
The loss for Fairfield moves them to 4-3-2 overall and 2-3-1 in the SHAC.
