The Fairfield Lady Lions are sectional champions as they won their Division IV SE District Sectional final match over Western Latham in five sets Thursday at FHS.
"Our serves were great, and overall the team played well," FHS coach MaryBeth Hodson said. "We worked on our defense, made some changes and it played out well. Our coverage by Sirenity (Smith) was great, and we shut down Western's hitters when we needed to.
"Western played us well and made us work for this win."
The five-set win at Grandle Gymnasium by the Lady Lions was a see-saw match between both teams, but it was FHS who won first at 25-15, but Western answered with a 25-21 win.
In set three, Fairfield answered by winning 25-9, but again, Western was there to tie the match at 2-2 with a set four victory of 25-23.

In the end, the Lady Lions were too strong in the fifth and final set as they won 15-5.
For FHS, Makenna Corzatt had nine aces on the night with 11 kills and 13 digs. She also had an assist.
Brenna Simmons totaled 18 kills, 11 digs, two aces and one assist; while teammate Cynnamon Sova-Davy had 13 digs, one kill and one ace.
Justice Hattan had three kills, one block and one dig. Sarah Putnam totaled one ace, two kills and nine digs, along with four blocks.
Sirenity Smith had 16 digs and one ace, while Sydney Corzatt totaled four aces, 11 kills, one assist and 19 digs.
FHS (14-5) will play again on Thursday, Oct. 25 at Jackson High School in a district semifinal match against 19-1 Eastern-Reedsville.
"If my girls can play at the level I know they can play at, we can be competitive against Reedsville," Hodson said. "Our defense will have to play strong like we have all season, and we'll just have to play our best game yet."
