Hillsboro’s Anthony Richards wins meet medalist at ’22 McClain Bob Bergstrom Invitational; McClain boys and girls finish as runners-up

GREENFIELD — The McClain Bob Bergstrom Invitational was held Friday evening at McClain Field in Greenfield, where both the McClain boys and girls teams placed second overall, and Hillsboro senior Anthony Richards was the boys meet medalist.
For the team finals, it was Miami Trace winning the boys event with 169.5 points, while the McClain boys were second place overall at 168.5 once the final scoring was in place. In the girls event, Circleville was the team champion at 158 points, while McClain was second with 139 points overall.
Hillsboro finished in sixth place in the girls meet with 53 points, while the HHS boys team was third place overall at 151. Also from Highland County, Fairfield was seventh place in the girls event and seventh place in the boys event as well.
As for the meet medalist from Hillsboro, Richards was a part of four first-place finishes, including three individual performances and one relay win.
Richards won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.84, the 400m dash at 51.57 and the long jump event with a distance of 20-06.00, as the next competitor in second place had a distance of 18-11.00. In the relay win, Richards was a part of the Hillsboro 4x400m relay team that also consisted of Nick Turner, Cameron Smart and Tate Davis, with the four runners finishing with a first-place time of 3:42.82.
Faith Donley of Fairfield finished with a time of 2:29.69 in the 800m run for first place, while Brenna Wright of McClain finished the 100m hurdles at 17.08 for the win.
The MHS girls 4x100m relay of Luca Matesic, Brenna Wright, Katie Cook and Iva Easter were first with a final time of 51.99.
McClain also placed well in field events as Matesic was first place in the girls triple jump at 31-08.50, Lily Barnes was first in the shot put at 33-01.00, and Barnes was also first place in the discus throw with a distance of 122-10.
In the boys events, McClain’s Brandon King was first in the 100m dash with a time of 11.44, and MHS teammate D.J. Frost was first in the 800m run at 2:10.47. Seth Wise was first place in the 110m hurdles race with a final time of 15.78.
McClain’s 4x100m relay team of Brandon King, Max Eikenberry, Wise and Braden Wright were the fastest runners with a time of 44.50 for the first-place finish.
The Tigers boys team also won the 4x800m relay as Mason Reichman, Frost, Andrew Newland and Luke Bliss had a time of 9:03.07.
In field events, Wright of McClain won the high jump at 5-10.00. In the shot put event, Hillsboro’s Ayden Clemons was first with a distance of 42-03.00.
