Grace Shope nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year

Grace Shope, a 2022 graduate of Transylvania University, and student-athlete for women's basketball, has been nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year award.
"So well deserved — we are all so very proud of you and how you represent Transy," Transylvania University President Brien Lewis said to student upon receiving news of her nomination.
The NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics directs this award stemming from Title IX as a celebration of the many accomplishments of female collegiate student-athletes from NCAA DI, DII, and DIII schools for the last 32 years. This award is used to honor academic achievement, athletics excellence, community service and outstanding leadership.
"During the past season, Grace demonstrated amazing resiliency and leadership both on and off the court,” said head coach Dr. Juli Fulks. “As we often are reminded, life doesn't stop when our student-athletes are in-season. Grace found a way to balance her commitments to her family, academics, internship, and team and do so with ‘grace’ and compassion for everyone involved, while leading our team to the best season in history.
“Her passion, joy, and servant attitude will be greatly missed next year in the gym and all around campus.”
In a storied and historic year for the women's basketball team, Shope was also the recipient of the Senior Leadership Award from a Female Sport at the Rafy's, Transy Athletics' award ceremony as voted on by the athletic coaching staff.
Vice President of Athletics Dr. Holly Sheilley added, "Grace is deserving of this honor as she has shown what true grit and grace is. I am extremely proud of her."
Shope is a graduate of Fairfield High School, where she was the all-time girls basketball scoring leader.
