Fairfield Lions earn rivalry win over Mustangs

DODSONVILLE – The Fairfield Lions wasted no time in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game on Tuesday, Dec. 21, as they built a big lead and never looked back on the road against the host Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs, winning by a 65-26 score at LCHS.
The Lions led 19-6 at the end of the first frame, and when halftime arrived they built a lead of 35-12 following a second quarter where they outscored the Mustangs 16-6.
For the Lions in the first quarter, they made five 3-pointers, plus had two baskets scored from the paint. In that first quarter, it was Brayden Zimmerman making two 3-pointers, plus T.J. Mootz sinking two treys and a two-point basket.
Also for the Lions in the opening frame, there was Koben Zink with a 3-pointer, and Reese Teeters sinking a two-point basket.
Fairfield in the second quarter had six points by Teeters, including two two-point baskets and two made free throws, plus there was Wyatt Collins with two points, five points from Tytis Cannon and a 3-pointer by Mootz.
Lynchburg-Clay in the first frame had four points from Brady Chisman and two points by Logan Shope, while the second quarter saw four points by Chisman and two points off a basket from Ian Waits.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs scored 12 points, as Chisman and Noah Miller each sank a 3-pointer, while Waits tallied four points and Shope scored two points.
The Lions continued to add to their lead in the third with a 19-point quarter with Teeters adding seven points, Zimmerman tacking on two points, Zink scoring four points and Cannon adding six points, including a 3-pointer.
After three frames, the Lions led 54-24 over the Mustangs.
The final quarter saw the Lions score 11 points, as Cannon had four points and Teeters scored three points, while Zink and Trey House each made a basket for two points each.
LCHS had two points in the fourth quarter from Kyle Bennington.
Teeters led all scorers with a game-high 18 points. The Lions had two other players finish with double-digit scoring, as Cannon added 15 points and Mootz scored 11 points.
Also for the Lions, Zink scored nine points for the game, followed by Zimmerman with eight points. Collins and House each scored two points.
The Mustangs were led by Chisman, who scored 11 points for the game. Waits added six points, followed by Shope with four, Miller with three and Bennington with two.
