Fairfield Lady Lions take down Eastern in overtime

The Fairfield Lady Lions gained a huge Southern Hills Athletic Conference victory on Wednesday night by defeating the defending champion Eastern Lady Warriors at EHS by a 52-48 score in overtime.
The SHAC win by the Lady Lions — who are now coached by Josh Stackhouse — saw the teams tied at 44 when regulation came to a close, but Fairfield rallied and outscored the Lady Warriors 8-4 in overtime.
In overtime, the Lady Lions’ points all came from the free-throw line, as they were 8-of-10 from the charity stripe with Faith Donley going 4-of-4 in her free-throw attempts in OT. Also in the overtime period, Peyton Magee was 3-of-4 and Hailey Tolle was 1-of-2.
For EHS in OT, they had all four of their points from Rylee Leonard, who made a free throw and a 3-pointer in the OT period.
The game saw Magee lead the Lady Lions with 21 points in the win, with the senior totaling two two-point baskets, four 3-pointers and she was 5-of-6 for the game from the free-throw line.
Donley ended the game with 12 points, as she had four two-point field goals and was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Hannah Hamilton totaled eight points with one two-point basket, one 3-pointer and she was 3-of-8 in her free throw attempts. Tolle finished with five points with two two-point baskets, and she made one of two free-throw opportunities.
Rounding out the Fairfield scoring were Caitlyn Quickle and Kassi Miller with three points each, as they both made 3-pointers in the SHAC victory.
As a team, FHS was 13-of-22 from the free-throw line, with nine made two-point buckets and seven made 3-pointers.
For Eastern, they were led by Leonard with 29 points, as she finished with four two-point baskets, five 3-pointers and she ended the game 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.
Other final scoring totals for EHS included 13 points by Sarah Clark, Clara Martin with three points, Emma Litzinger with two points and McKenzie Dotson with one point.
EHS finished with 11 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers and were 8-of-14 in their free throw chances.
As for how the scoring in regulation happened, Eastern led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, and they outscored FHS 15-12 in the second frame, as FHS trailed 31-23 at halftime.
In the third quarter, the Lady Lions held Eastern to four points, while Fairfield scored 14 points in the third frame with three 3-pointers by Magee, four points by Donley and four points from Hamilton (including a 3-pointer) as FHS took a 37-35 lead after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, Eastern outscored Fairfield 9-7 to force overtime. In OT, the Lady Lions won the frame 8-4 to seal the win.
Next for Fairfield is another SHAC game, this time at Ripley on Thursday, Dec. 1.
