The Lehigh University Mountain Hawks finished the two-day Dr. Sander Invitational meet with several positive outtakes, including 13 PRs and one broken school record.

Lehigh faced tough competition at the Armory on Friday, Feb. 4 and Saturday, Feb. 5, including Maryland, Penn State, Syracuse, UCLA and several other schools.

All eyes were on the Mountain Hawks' distance medley relay on Friday, as they broke a 38-year-old school record (9:57.69).

Starting the relay off was junior Connor Melko, who ran the first 1200 meters. Melko had a great start before passing the baton to junior Brandtson Duffie, who ran the next 400 meters. Junior Jacob Martinez followed Duffie running the next 800 meters of the race. Senior Kyle Burke was the anchor, finishing the last 1600 meters of the race in 4:06.63.

"First, I would like to credit the guys who set that record so long ago, for holding the record for so long and also still being a big part of our program today," said head coach Matt Utesch. "I would also like to congratulate the four men who broke it. They all ran fantastic legs and it was a full team effort to take it down."

Duffie, an Earth and Environmental Science major from Wilmington, won a 2019 OHSAA State Track and Field Championship in the 800m run as a senior at Fairfield.
