Div. III District Cross-Country: Lions win 2nd district title

The Fairfield Lions raced to their second consecutive Division III SE District overall team championship Saturday afternoon, held at the University of Rio Grande. The Lions won the title with a low score of 35.
There were two Division III district races.
The Lions were followed by West Union (73), Ironton Rock Hill (83), Racine Southern (87), Glouster Trimble (124), Dawson-Bryant (160), Paint Valley (162), Manchester (178) and Portsmouth Clay (257).
A brisk wind of up to 25 miles an hour gave the runners challenging conditions in which to compete, but junior Michael Mangus finished second in the race with a time of 17:07.

The race was won by Racine Southern's Kody Wolfe with a time of 16:57, as Wolfe finished in 10th place at last year's state meet.
Following Mangus for the Lions was Blake Hildebrant with a time of 17:47 to place third.
Next came a pack of Lion runners, starting with Wyatt Crothers finishing 10th with a time of 18:47, Dustin Willey 11th with a time of 18:52.71 and Matthew Leach 12th with a time of 18:52.79. John Cain was 15th with a time of 18:57, and Zach Schmitz was 18th with a time of 19:14.
Fairfield had six of their seven varsity runners named to the Southeast All-District Cross-Country Team: Mangus, Hildebrant, Crothers, Willey, Leach and Cain.
The team will be competing at regional championships held at Pickerington North High School on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. The top four teams and 16 individuals will qualify for the State Championships, to be held at National Trail Raceway in Hebron on Saturday, Nov. 3.
