Buckskin Elementary School fifth-grader Bailer Trefz and his grandfather, Vietnam veteran Bobby Trefz, recently retrieved the old tattered and torn flags from the school in South Salem for them to be retired in a flag retirement ceremony. They also replaced them with new flags, ending the flag-raising with a final salute.

Bailer, 11, is a member of Boy Scout Troop 5316.
