         Trailing by as much as 16 points in the first half, the Southern State Lady Patriots came close several times of breaking away with the lead, but in the end the Ohio Christian University Lady Trailblazers were too much with OCU defeating SSCC 91-82 at the Patriot Center, located on the campus of Southern State in Hillsboro.

    When the 1964 SCOL football season opened in September, there
    were six member schools instead of the eight members of the 1963
    season. The two Columbus area schools, Pleasant View and Franklin Heights, had dropped out of the league to join the Southern Suburban League. Franklin Heights is still a high school, but Pleasant View is now a middle school in Franklin County.

  • All-SCOL picks spurred controversy
    There was a certain amount of controversy concerning the select-ion of the All-SCOL football team at the end of the 1963 season. It seems that these honorary all-star teams are always arbitrary and nearly always, in some way, controversial. All the coaches wanted to get as many honors for their players as they possibly could. Former Hillsboro sports writer Don Edwards questioned Wilmington’s getting nine players on the offensive and defensive All-SCOL teams, when Hillsboro got none. “If Wilmington had all the good players and Hillsboro had none, how did the Indians beat Wilmington on their home field?” he wondered.
