Wildcats fall to SHAC rival Fayetteville

On Friday night (Jan. 26), the Whiteoak Wildcats went on the road to battle with the host Fayetteville Rockets, but it was the hosts who were the winners as they defeated the Wildcats, 66-53.
It was a tough start for Whiteoak as they trailed by 10 points after the first quarter at 17-7, and in the second quarter it was Fayetteville winning the frame at 13-12, for a halftime lead by the Rockets at 30-19.
Whiteoak won the third frame at 17-16, but the fourth quarter saw Fayetteville outscore the Wildcats, 20-17.
WHS had four players score in double figures in the loss, as Brady Brandenburg totaled 16 points to lead the way, making seven two-point baskets and going 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Bradenburg had a double-double for the game, as he totaled 11 rebounds.
Next was Weston Blair with 14 points, as he also made seven two-point baskets and collected a double-double with 13 rebounds.
Zander Roades totaled 11 points by making two 3-pointers, one two-point basket and three free throws on four chances.
Sawyer Blair scored 10 points for WHS, making two two-point baskets, a 3-pointer and he was 3-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Also scoring points for WHS was Zach Igo with two points.
The Wildcats totaled 34 rebounds, 10 assists, 11 steals and one block, and they committed 14 turnovers.
Fayetteville was led by Caleb Tipis with 30 points and Cayden James with 19 points.
WHS is now 5-4 in the SHAC Division II standings, and 5-10 overall (after Saturday’s game at Northwest).
Fayetteville improves to 4-5 in the SHAC Division II standings and 7-9 overall.
