LC boys soccer falls in season opener against Minford
The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs dropped their 2026 season opener on Saturday afternoon with a road loss against the Minford Falcons by a 3-1 score at MHS.
LC’s game was originally scheduled to be a home match, but the game was switched to Minford due to field conditions at LCHS.
The lone goal scored by the Mustangs came from junior Brayden Warne in the first half.
Minford led the Mustangs 3-1 at halftime with goals from Colby Mullins (two) and Ashton Reeder.
LCHS now stands at 0-1 overall with their next match being on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at home against the North Adams Green Devils at 5 p.m. at Lynchburg-Clay High School.

Lady Mustangs soccer ties with Minford
The Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs finished with a 2-2 tie against the Minford Lady Falcons on Saturday to start their ’26 regular season in a non-conference match at Minford High School.
The game was originally scheduled to be played at LCHS but was moved to Minford due to field conditions.
In the match on Saturday, the Lady Mustangs scored the first two goals of the game with Lily Ferguson putting the ball past the keeper at the 21:43 mark with the assist from Caraline West.
Ferguson scored her second goal of the match at 11:02, with the goal being unassisted, putting LCHS ahead 2-0.
Minford made it a 2-1 score with a goal from Marley Rhodes at the 6:41 mark of the first half, with the assist credited to Presley Brooks.
At the half, LCHS led 2-1.
The second-half scoring saw Minford tie the score at 2-2 with a goal from Makenna Enz, with the assist by Sadie Tieman.
LCHS keeper Scarlett McElwee totaled two saves, and Minford keeper Addison Lemon also had two saves. Minford out-shot Lynchburg-Clay, 8-5.
The loss sends LCHS to an 0-0-1 overall record, and they are scheduled to play again on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at home against the Western Brown Lady Broncos at 7 p.m.
