  • Local radio hams to participate in annual Field Day

    "Radio Hams" from Clinton and Highland Counties will join forces at the Levo Farm near New Vienna the weekend of June 25-26 and join thousands of amateur radio operators who will be testing their emergency capabilities this weekend. This annual event, called "Field Day," is the climax of a week recognizing the role amateur radio plays in worldwide communications. Ohio Governor John Kasich has designated June 25, 2011 as Amateur Radio Appreciation Day in the state.

  • 8th Annual Firefighters Parade set for June 30
    The Festival of the Bells Committee, in conjunction with the Highland County Firefighters Association, are pleased to announce that the 8th Annual Firefighters Parade will be held on June 30, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in Hillsboro. Lineup will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Highland County Fairgrounds. Judging of emergency equipment will start at 4 p.m. and end at 5:45 p.m.

    These scholarships and other contributions to organizations within the county would not be possible without the help of the community in supporting the lemon shake booth at the Festival of Bells. The lemon shake booth is the only fundraising event the club does.
  • AAA7 receives designation for Aging and Disability Resource Network
    Older adults and those with disabilities do not have to look very far when searching for help and assistance with long-term care options and resources; the Area Agency on Aging District 7, Inc. (AAA7) has been providing this helpful service to those in our district since 1972. Now, there is great news for the district as this helpful service has experienced an enhancement through a designation the AAA7 received from the Ohio Department of Aging (ODA).

    The Highland County Humane Society will host its annual yard sale Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11. Feel free to help make the event a success by looking in your attics, basements and garages for items you may wish to donate. (No adult clothing, please.) All proceeds go directly to benefit the animals at the shelter.
