There was a certain amount of controversy concerning the select-ion of the All-SCOL football team at the end of the 1963 season. It seems that these honorary all-star teams are always arbitrary and nearly always, in some way, controversial. All the coaches wanted to get as many honors for their players as they possibly could. Former Hillsboro sports writer Don Edwards questioned Wilmington’s getting nine players on the offensive and defensive All-SCOL teams, when Hillsboro got none. “If Wilmington had all the good players and Hillsboro had none, how did the Indians beat Wilmington on their home field?” he wondered.

While daylight hours have been getting shorter for some time, it seems pretty dramatic with the departure of daylight-saving time. I’m sure farmers would like to see longer daylight hours to help make up for harvest delays. At least last week we were able to string together several days of nice weather which allowed most farmers to make some progress with harvest. A definite result of the harvest delays is that it appears Highland and the surrounding counties will have a large reduction in wheat acres planted.

If you like competitive, fair, but tough competition, Week 10 of the NFL season is the thing to watch this weekend.

    My name is Sheila Hottinger, and I am a resident of Fayette County, but work in Clinton, Highland and Brown counties. I am an educator with the local community college and, therefore, I have the privilege of traveling from campus to campus, which I thoroughly love. The faculty, staff, and students are phenomenal. I have met some wonderful people and I am extremely blessed to know them.

First off, this week, let’s all give a heartfelt congratulations to Rosalind Newman. Mrs. Newman retires this week after 30 years of public service to Highland County.
