A Greenfield woman indicted on a charge of involuntary manslaughter following the March death of her infant daughter appeared Wednesday in Highland County Common Pleas Court, where she cried through the hearing, and sobbed loudly as she was led out of the courtroom by her attorney.

A Hillsboro man has pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to child pornography in Highland County Common Pleas Court.
 Dana Jeter, 52, of Hillsboro, entered guilty pleas on counts one and two of a 17-count indictment Wednesday. As part of the plea agreement, the remaining 15 counts were dismissed.

Former U.S. Congressman Clarence E. Miller, a longtime Ohio Republican lawmaker, has died. Congressman Miller died on Aug. 2 in a Lancaster, Ohio hospital. He was 93.

Eleven individuals, along with real estate and bank accounts, were indicted on 173 counts by a grand jury in Highland County Common Pleas Court in a continuing investigation into patterns of corrupt activity involving a drug pipeline law enforcement says is responsible for bringing heroin into Highland County via Greenfield. 

The corrupt activity charges are "intertwined" with cases against nine individuals who were arrested in April in the Greenfield area on similar charges, according to Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward.

Greenfield residents presented the Greenfield council and administration with a petition Tuesday saying they do not want the village to pursue efforts to combine trash collection with their waters bills.
 During council's regular meeting Tuesday, Greenfield resident Bonnie Clyburn addressed council, as she and Becky Grove and Erica Kelly, presented a petition with 1,354 signatures.

Following the U.S. House of Representatives' passage Monday of a compromise bill to raise the federal debt ceiling, the Senate has approved the measure in a 74-26 vote Tuesday. Both of Ohio's U.S. senators, Sherrod Brown and Rob Portman, voted in favor of the bill.

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has sent letters to Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted and the committee representing the petitioners rejecting the summary language for the proposed referendum on the election reform bill, Am. Sub. H.B. 194.

God, the Constitution and Capitalism are the basis of what the United States was founded upon, and those principles are what members of the Highland County TEA Party stand for, according to radio personality and Highland County Press columnist Eric Deters.
  Standing before a large American flag, Deters, an attorney who hosts a talk radio show on Real Talk 1160 AM, said he felt a little like Gen. George Patton, as he took the stage Monday at the Colony Theater in Hillsboro as the guest speaker at the Highland County TEA Party's August meeting.
  "But I promise not to hit anybody or cuss," Deters said with a laugh, referencing the World War II general.

A Highland County Sheriff's Office deputy has been arrested and charged with menacing, according to the Hillsboro Municipal Court. Court records indicate that Mark W. Middleton, 42, of Hillsboro was charged with menacing, a fourth-degree misdemeanor, following an incident on July 28 in Clay Township.

The FBI has revealed that it believes it has a new lead on one of the nation's most elusive fugitives, as new information was released on the D.B. Cooper mystery. It's been almost 40 years since famed hijacker D.B. Cooper disappeared when he jumped out of a plane with $200,000 in FBI cash over the state of Washington on Thanksgiving Eve 1971.
