For the second time this season, the Hillsboro Lady Indians left the court with the winning score. On a day where Martin Luther King was celebrated, the Lady Indians gave everything they had to fend off the Fairfield Lady Lions for a 39-30 non-league, Highland County rivalry victory.

One game removed from scoring a season-low 38 points, the Hillsboro Indians rebounded with a South Central Ohio League win over the London Red Raiders, 63-55 Saturday night at LHS.

After last Friday’s games involving six teams from the South Central Ohio League, it is safe to say the league is too close to call near the halfway point of the league season.

The Hillsboro Lady Indians put four quarters together, taking the game down to the final seconds. One layup by senior Jenni Willey put HHS in the lead for good, defeating Highland County rival Whiteoak for their first win of the season, 47-45 Saturday afternoon at Hillsboro High School.

The Hillsboro Lady Indians outscored the Blanchester Lady Wildcats in the second half, but it was the first 16 minutes that hurt the Lady Indians Tuesday night at Hillsboro High School. HHS fell to BHS 50-36.

Hillsboro junior Chase Gilliland proved to have ice water running though his veins Thursday at Hillsboro High School, with the game in his hands. With Hillsboro needing two points to send the game into overtime, the junior released the ball with 3.8 seconds left on the clock and tied the game at the buzzer, nothing but net, with the Indians eventually winning the game in overtime, 68-62.

Since this is the last edition of The Highland County Press for the 2010 calendar year, I thought it would be a good time to turn back the clock and look back at some of the top games I had the opportunity to attend this year. My journey back in time starts on Jan. 1 and ends on Dec. 22, 2010.

The old adage "throw the records out the window" when two rivals play one another rang true Wednesday evening at McClain High School when the McClain Tigers and Hillsboro Indians stepped onto the court.
