  • Bearcats top Wildcats in Wilkin Scholarship Tournament opener at LC

    The Whiteoak Wildcats were unable to hold onto a fourth quarter lead Wednesday night against the Paint Valley Bearcats. PV outscored the Wildcats 20-10 in the final frame for a 56-50 victory over WHS, in the Wilkin Scholarship Tournament at Lynchburg-Clay High School.
  • Lady 'Cats fall to Mohawks
    The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats are still looking for their first win of the season. Though they scored in double figures in two quarters on Monday, they were held to a combined 13 points in the first and third quarters for a 58-46 loss to the Northwest Lady Mohawks.
  • Indians fight back, win in OT over Wildcats
    Hillsboro junior Chase Gilliland proved to have ice water running though his veins Thursday at Hillsboro High School, with the game in his hands. With Hillsboro needing two points to send the game into overtime, the junior released the ball with 3.8 seconds left on the clock and tied the game at the buzzer, nothing but net, with the Indians eventually winning the game in overtime, 68-62.

    Since this is the last edition of The Highland County Press for the 2010 calendar year, I thought it would be a good time to turn back the clock and look back at some of the top games I had the opportunity to attend this year. My journey back in time starts on Jan. 1 and ends on Dec. 22, 2010.

But once the final seconds of overtime ticked off the scoreboard, it was the Whiteoak Wildcats who were the winners, defeating the Fairfield Lions, 55-49, for the Southern Hills League win.

  • North Adams outguns Whiteoak, 69-54, to open 2010-11 season
    Drew Dollich showed little signs of his preseason illness and lit up the Whiteoak defense for 21 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, as Coach Dave Young's Green Devils defeated Tom Wessner's Wildcats, 69-54, Friday, Dec. 3. Prior to the opening tipoff, the North Adams gymnasium paused for a moment of silence in honor of fallen U.S. Marine Luke Scott of Adams County, who lost his life in the war in Afghanistan this week.
