Waverly man charged with aggravated murder

Pike County Sheriff Tracy D. Evans reports that on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 8:25 a.m., deputies were dispatched to Curtis Lane in reference to a reported shooting. 

The caller alleged that a male subject had been shot in the head by Christopher L. Barfield of Waverly. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Barfield allegedly fled from the scene but was later apprehended by Pike County deputies and Piketon Police Department in the area of Curtis Lane. Pike County Prosecutor’s Office Investigator and Pike County Deputies placed Barfield in custody and transported him to the sheriff’s office for questioning. 

Barfield was later charged with aggravated murder and transported to the Ross County Jail. The Attorney General’s Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) was notified and assisted in processing the scene.
