Hillsboro’s Rylie Ison 16th at nationals; Lady Indians place 10th as team; boys bowling 24th overall

Last weekend (June 20-22) in Columbus, the Hillsboro boys and girls bowling teams competed in the U.S. High School Bowling National Championship at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace in an event by the U.S. High School Bowling Foundation.

The girls team placed 10th overall in a field of 35 teams, while the boys team placed 24th overall in a field of 77 teams. 

The girls results, with 304 girls competing, saw Rylie Ison — who this past winter was a state runner-up — place 16th overall with an overall survivor round score of 2,037, which included 10 games of play from Ison.

Ison in the qualifying round had scores of 204, 177, 180 and 269. In the next round, her game scores were 189, 178 and 225. In what was their third round, Ison had the following game scores: 226 and 213. In her final game, Ison scored a 176. 

Also for the Lady Indians, final results included: Madison Nichols (65th place), Sidney Bayless (83rd place), Cami Miller (91st place), Rylee Moyer (141st place), Riley Clemons (160th place) and Carey Skeens (247th place). 

The team champion was Team Harlem from Illinois. 

The top placer for the boys from Hillsboro was Camden Lively in 31st place in a field of 577 boys bowlers. 

Also for the Indians boys team, final results included: Quentin Gall (252nd place), Steven Rodgers (255th place), Talc Girard (333rd place), Jay Reno (390th place) and Austin Huff (399th place). 

‘We are so proud of the kiddos,” Hillsboro coaches wrote on a Facebook post. “They represented Hillsboro well, both on and off the lanes. It was a great weekend to be an Indian.”
