Hillsboro wins ’26 season-opening tri-match; Davis earns 1,000th career dig

Hosting a Serve for Szedi Fundraiser for their 2026 season opening two-matches on Wednesday (Aug. 19), the Hillsboro Lady Indians volleyball team defeated both the Eastern Lady Warriors and the Blanchester Lady Wildcats in best of three matches where HHS swept both contests.
Proceeds for the fundraising event were raised for the Szedi Roush Foundation, in honor of Szedi Roush while raising awareness for suicide prevention.
The tri-match also saw Hillsboro senior Tylee Davis earn her 1,000th career dig.
The non-conference season opening matches first saw Hillsboro defeat the Eastern Lady Warriors in two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-18. HHS then defeated the Blanchester Lady Wildcats by scores of 25-15 and 25-11.
Against the Lady Warriors, Hillsboro was led in kills by sophomore Emmalee Young with right, followed by Davis and senior Ryan Wagoner with five each. Then it was junior Riley Pence with three kills and senior Scarlett Perkins had one.
The ace leaders for HHS against Eastern were Young, senior Josie Rhoades and Davis with three each. Wagoner finished with two, and Pence had one ace.
Young was the only HHS player to record a block. Hillsboro had Davis lead the team in digs with seven, followed by Young (five), Perkins (three), Wagoner (two), and Rhoades (two).
Young also led the team with 10 assists, while Perkins had eight assists, and Wagoner had one.
Wagoner totaled 12 receptions, while Davis was next with five, and Rhoades totaled three. Also with receptions were Pence (one), Perkins (one), and Young (one).
Against Blanchester the Lady Indians won by scores of 25-15 and 25-11.
In the win over the Lady Wildcats, Davis collected eight kills, three aces, and six digs. Fauber finished with two aces and two digs. Also for HHS, Marianne Mycroft totaled two kills. Pence finished the match with two kills and a dig. Perkins had 16 assists and four digs.
The Lady Indians also had Rhoades with three digs, while Wagoner totaled six kills, two aces, and seven digs. Young ended the match with four kills, six assists, one ace, and 13 digs. Zink had one dig.
The wins put Hillsboro at 2-0 overall to start the ‘26 season.
