Davis scores 30 points in Hillsboro loss to Western Brown

For the second time in consecutive games, the Hillsboro Lady Indians suffered a rare loss, this time on Monday, Dec. 22 as they fell at home to the Western Brown Lady Broncos, 78-57 at HHS. 

The non-conference game saw Hillsboro trail 19-12 after the first quarter, then after being outscored 23-15 in the second frame, it was WBHS leading 42-17 at halftime. 

Hillsboro won the third frame at 18-17, but the Lady Broncos outscored Hillsboro 19-12 in the fourth quarter. 

Hillsboro was led in scoring by Tylee Davis with 30 points, as she made 11 two-point shots from the field, plus added two 3-pointers and was 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Davis also added eight rebounds, four assists, four steals and one block to her game totals. 

Kobie Miles scored nine points for HHS by making three two-point buckets and one 3-pointer. She also had three rebounds and five assists. 

Ella Jordan finished with seven points with one 3-pointer, one two-pointer, and she was also 2-of-4 from the free-throw line. Jordan also had one rebound, three assists, two steals and one block. 

Taylor-Ann Scruggs totaled four points off two baskets for the Lady Indians, along with two rebounds. Parker Wilkin scored three points with a 3-pointer. 

HHS also had two points each from Piper Wilkin and Annia Young. Piper Wilkin also had one rebound, one assist and one steal. Young finished with eight rebounds and one assist. 

For the game, the Lady Indians totaled 19 two-pointers, five 3-pointers and they were 4-of-11 from the free-throw line. They also had team totals of 23 rebounds (10 offensive), 14 assists, seven steals and two blocks. HHS committed 16 turnovers in the loss. 

Western Brown was led in scoring by J. Jenike with 20 points, followed by Peyton Butler with 13 points, Mayci Murrell with 13 points, Madilyn Ruby with 12 points and Aubrey Schaffner with 11 points, giving WBHS five players in double-figure scoring. 

WBHS also had the following final scouring totals: LuLu Waters (2), Whitli Lang (2) and Danica Verdon (5). 

Western Brown totaled 22 two-point baskets, six 3-pointers (Butler 3, Jenike 1, Murrell 1, Schaffner 1) and were 16-of-21 from the free-throw line. They also collected 33 rebounds (16 offensive), 14 assists, 12 steals and six blocks, and committed 16 turnovers. 

The win by Western Brown improves their overall record to 7-1. Hillsboro now stands at 7-3 overall this season. 

In JV action, Hillsboro won 25-15 in two quarters. HHS was led by Taylor-Ann Scruggs with 12 points, followed by Nevaeh Blair with six points, Parker Wilkin scored four points, while teammates Kylee-Ann Scruggs scored two points and Zoey Page scored one point. 

Next for HHS is a non-conference game on Monday, Dec. 29 on the road against Highland County rival, the Lynchburg-Clay Lady Mustangs (2-7), at LCHS.
