Hillsboro, Lynchburg-Clay have division changes for 2026-27 boys basketball season

The Ohio High School Athletic Association released their new boys basketball divisions list on Tuesday (June 30) for the upcoming 2026-27 winter sports season, and for two Highland County teams, they have moved down one division each. 

The Hillsboro Indians boys basketball team will now be playing in Division IV for the postseason tournament, as they were a member of Division III last season. 

The Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs boys basketball team will now be in Division VI, as last season they played in Division V. 

McClain stays in Division IV, while Fairfield and Whiteoak will remain in Division VII. 

The divisions will be assessed every two years, according to the OHSAA. 

In a press release, it states the following from the OHSAA: 

“The 2026-27 school year will be the first of a new two-year enrollment cycle using data provided by the Ohio Department of Education. Girls and boys basketball also goes through the OHSAA competitive balance process.”

Highland County girls basketball teams had no changes in the divisions they are a part of, with Hillsboro and McClain both staying in Division IV, Lynchburg-Clay and Fairfield in Division VI and Whiteoak in Division VII. 

In swimming, both the Hillsboro and McClain teams will stay in Division II. 

The only change for Highland County bowling teams is the McClain girls team will move to Division II from Division I. Hillsboro girls will stay in Division I, while Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield, and Whiteoak will all be in Division II in girls bowling. 

The boys bowling will still have Hillsboro in Division I, while McClain, Lynchburg-Clay, Fairfield and Whiteoak will be in Division II.
