5 Highland County athletes named baseball/softball All-Ohio

The 2024 spring baseball and softball seasons were full of great success for Highland County teams, and to cap off the end-of-season honors, five athletes from the county were selected to their respective baseball and softball All-Ohio teams by the coaches from the state.

In softball, two Highland County athletes were selected to the team, as in Division III Fairfield senior Caitlyn Quickle was named first-team All-Ohio as a pitcher.

As a pitcher this season for the Lady Lions, Quickle — who missed her junior season due to an ACL injury — returned to the softball diamond with a fury, pitching 22 games (115 innings). In her time in the circle, she had a 2.73 ERA with 141 strikeouts, five shutouts and a 15-6 record.

At the plate, Quickle batted .556 in 81 at-bats with 43 runs, 45 hits, 48 RBI, 17 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 14 walks, a .610 OBP and a slugging percentage of 1.025. She was also hit by a pitch twice and struck out just three times.

Hillsboro junior pitcher Camryn Spruell was named to the Division II All-Ohio team as a pitcher, as she was honorable mention.

At the plate in ’24, Spruell batted .493 with 71 at-bats (94 plate appearances), collecting 33 runs, 35 hits, 41 RBI, six doubles, 11 home runs, a .617 OBP and 1.659 SLG.

In the circle, Spruell was just as outstanding, finishing the season with a 0.67 ERA, pitching 148.1 innings. She finished with 338 strikeouts, facing 554 batters and allowing just 14 earned runs, plus she had one save. Spruell also held opponents to a .123 batting average.

In baseball, three Division IV players from Highland County were named to the All-Ohio team.

Whiteoak senior Eli Roberts was selected first-team All-Ohio, while Fairfield seniors Gabe Fouch and Cade Miller were named honorable mention All-Ohio.

Roberts in ’24 finished his season with a .347 batting average with five doubles, one triple, two home runs, 16 walks, a .490 OBP and .520 SLG, along with 31 steals.

On the mound, Roberts made seven appearances with two saves, 11 strikeouts and a 1.615 ERA in 8.2 innings.

At the plate this season, Fouch played in 25 games, where he had 71 at-bats, finishing the season with a .324 batting average with 28 runs, 23 hits, 17 RBI, five doubles, four triples, 18 walks, four hits by pitch, a .484 OBP and a .507, SLG and he also collected seven steals.

On the mound, the senior pitcher Fouch made nine appearances, pitching 46 innings, finishing with a 0.457 ERA, with 80 strikeouts and a 5-2 record.

In 11 appearances this season, Miller pitched 56 innings, where he collected a no-hitter, with a 0.625 ERA. Miller struck out 90 batters and threw four shutouts, while compiling a 7-1 record with one save.

At the plate, Miller batted .453 with eight doubles, one triple, one home run, 14 walks and 11 steals, while having a 0.543 OBP and 0.627 SLG.
