The McClain Lady Tigers soccer moved to 5-0 on the season with another shutout, this one a 4-0 victory over Frontier Athletic Conference foe Washington, in Greenfield Tuesday night.

McClain, who has been as hot as the recent weather, battled the 90⁰ temperatures to blank an opponent for a fourth time this year, which is an impressive feat to say the least.

“I thought we played well in the first half today but just couldn’t punch it in,” McClain head coach Blain Bergstrom said. “I don’t know how many shots we had on goal today, but it was a lot.

“We were getting some good looks, but like I said, just could not stick it in the net.”

The Lady Tigers held a 2-0 advantage at halftime on goals by Paisley Pryor and Mylie Lovett, and their defense was superb over the first 40 minutes, limiting Washington to just three shots on goal.

“Nobody has scored on us all year during live time, and the one goal that we’ve given up was on a free kick, so our defense really doesn’t get the credit they deserve,” said Bergstrom. “We have four juniors back there, and they have done a really good job of rotating when they’ve needed to.”

McClain’s defense continued to be spot on in the second half, and the offense got two more goals from Pryor, giving her a second consecutive hat trick, as the Lady Tigers pulled out the 4-0 victory.

“This was another good, positive win for us, and our defense really wasn’t threatened much and Kenzie (Wise) didn’t need to make any tough saves tonight,” Bergstrom said. “Now that hump that we need to get over is to beat Jackson down there Thursday night. They have another strong team and a solid program, but I think our girls will be ready to play.

“We’re 5-0, and the girls are playing really well right now, so I can’t really complain too much about that.”

The Lady Tigers travel to Jackson Thursday, Aug. 29 with a 8 p.m. start time against the defending FAC champion Ironladies.
