Fairfield head coach Quentin Williams won twice on Friday night, as the Fairfield Lions earned a regular-season finale win on Valentine’s Day against the visiting Manchester Greyhounds by a 70-34 score.

As the Lions celebrated their 16th victory of the season, another celebration occurred after the game when Coach Williams proposed — with the help of his team and cheerleaders — to his now fiancée Haley Whitt.

Before that happy moment following the game, the Lions took care of business on the court in their Southern Hills Athletic Conference game, as the Lions won the Division II championship with a conference record of 11-2, with an overall record of 16-6.

The Lions led 17-11 after the first quarter, and following a 16-13 second frame where the Lions won the frame, it was Fairfield leading at halftime at 33-24.

In the second half, the Lions outscored Manchester 12-5 in the third and 25-5 in the fourth quarter.

Brody Smith led FHS with 19 points, followed by Logan McIntosh with 14 points and Griffin Friend totaled 11 points.

The Lions also had team manager Jaylen Daulton come off the bench for his first action of the season and impress with two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter, plus he scored two points on another basket for eight total points.

Also scoring eight points was Caleb Barrera, and Quentin McIntosh totaled six points in the win. FHS also had two points each from Chase Newman and Caleb Rice.

Manchester with the loss moves to 5-8 in the SHAC Division II standings and 11-11 overall.

Next for the Lions is their Division VII SE District Quarterfinal game on Thursday, Feb. 20 at home (Grandle Gymnasium) at 7 p.m. against the Trimble Tomcats.
