Following a week that saw the Fairfield Lady Lions outscore their opponents 53-1 and belt 18 extra-base hits, including eight home runs in four consecutive victories, the Lady Lions showed their versatility by using the bunt, aggressive base running, stringing together single after single en route to another win.

Fairfield traveled to Williamsburg High School last Monday to face the Williamsburg Lady Wildcats, the top team in the Southern Buckeye Athletic and Academic Conference. The two teams have faced off over the last several years, and each time out it is a battle, with Fairfield winning this time 10-2.

Williamsburg took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a walk, a hit batter, a throwing error and single, but Caitlyn Quickle and the Lady Lion defense became lights out the rest of the game, retiring the final 15 out 16 batters.

A lone walk in the bottom of the fifth inning was the only Wildcat base runner.

Fairfield scored a run in the top of the third inning to make the score 2-1. With one out, Ally Maynard was safe on an error, Rilee Quickle singled and Caitlyn Quickle singled to score Maynard.

The Lady Lions sent 13 batters to the plate to score nine runs and take a commanding 10-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Senior centerfielder Sydney Hooper singled to centerfield to lead off the inning. One out later, Rilee Quickle singled to advance Hooper to second base. Jobey Hattan laid down a bunt single, and when the rushed throw went past the first baseman, both Hooper and Quickle scored.

Caitlyn Quickle followed with a walk to advance Hattan to second base. Whitlee Morrow entered the game as a courtesy runner for Quickle. Hattan and Morrow pulled off a double steal on a fake bunt by Emmi Vance.

Vance then laid down the perfect bunt for a base hit to score Hattan, and when the throw was wide of first, Morrow also scored and Vance slid in safe at third base. With two outs, Katelyn Chambliss singled to centerfield to score Vance, and Addi Bales walked.

Hooper recorded her second single of the inning to drive in Chambliss. Maynard singled up the middle to drive in two more runs. Rilee Quickle completed the scoring with a double to left centerfield to drive in Maynard.
