Patrol OVI checkpoint planned on U.S. 62 tonight

WILMINGTON – The Ohio State Highway Patrol, in conjunction with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and Washington Court House Police Department, announced today that an OVI checkpoint will be held tonight from 9-11 p.m. on U.S. 62 in Fayette County.

The OVI checkpoint, funded by federal grant funds, is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint will also be held in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols to aggressively combat impaired driver-related injury and fatal crashes.

If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.

If you see an impaired or reckless driver on the road, call #677 to be connected directly to the nearest Ohio State Highway Patrol post. Your call could save a life.

The Patrol is seeking driven, service-minded individuals who are ready to make a difference and removed impaired drivers from Ohio roadways. Those interested can text “joinOSHP” to (614) 654-OSHP.

The Patrol also offers a ride-along program and those interested are encouraged to contact their local OSHP post  to schedule a ride-along with a trooper during their shift.

May save a life BUT a very costly completely ineffectual program. "federal grant funds" translation (funded by you and me). Better idea... dedicated impaired driver squad to respond #677 calls... offer rewards to callers for convictions.
