Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education member Rebecca Sanderson resigns

Rebecca Sanderson has resigned from the Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools Board of Education, effective immediately, according to a letter submitted to the Board on July 28.

Sanderson said the decision came down to time, not commitment. Since joining the Board, she has taken on the role of Head of School at Hillsboro Christian Academy, a position that now requires more of her attention than she can give alongside her Board duties.

“I want to be very clear that there is no reason for my resignation other than time and the demands of my current responsibilities. If I could somehow add more hours to each day, I certainly would. I do not want to simply hold a position or attend meetings; I want to be prepared, engaged, informed and able to give the responsibility the attention it deserves,” Sanderson wrote. “I do not feel that I can continue to do that while also meeting my responsibilities at HCA and to my family.”

Sanderson pointed to the district’s completion of its strategic planning process as a highlight of her tenure, calling it a guide for “thoughtful decision-making and continued growth in the years ahead.” She also thanked former superintendent Ron Sexton for his leadership and expressed confidence in the new superintendent, Jacob Zink, to build on the district’s progress.

“I am grateful for the opportunity I have had to serve Lynchburg-Clay,” Sanderson wrote. “I believe our district has come a long way during the past few years, and I am genuinely optimistic about where it is headed.”

The Lynchburg-Clay Board of Education thanks Sanderson for her service and will begin the process of filling the vacant seat in accordance with Ohio law.
