The trial of a former corrections officer at the Highland County Justice Center has been continued.
 Christopher L. Hilderbrandt, 30, of Highland County, was indicted in October on one count of sexual battery, a felony of the third degree.

The Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education re-elected Laura Bagshaw as board president and Sam Barnhouse as vice president during the organizational meeting held Monday.
 The board met in the library of Hillsboro High School, where the regular monthly meetings will be held during 2011. Immediately following the vote on officers, Bagshaw and Barnhouse were sworn in by treasurer Debbie Lawwell.

 Terry Mikkelsen, a Republican, has taken out petitions to run for the office of Hillsboro mayor, and he said he will work on "removing the barrier between government and the community, making the label of Democrat and Republican irrelevant, (and) building up our community and bringing us back together as one - Hillsboro."

The Highland County Board of Commissioners met for their organizational meeting Monday, and re-elected Shane Wilkin as board president.
 Commissioner Tom Horst made a motion that Wilkin remain as president, and that Horst remain as vice president. Commissioner Jeremy Shaffer seconded the motion, which was passed 3-0.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for much of southern Ohio, including Highland County, for Tuesday, Jan. 11.
