The 39th annual Rotary telethon has collected $120,000 to go toward "people helping people" at the Highland County Society for Children and Adults.
Despite Highland County's economic difficulties, double-digit unemployment and personal financial hardships, area residents poured in dollars Wednesday night. Throughout the night, donors and organizers said supporting the society is a part of hometown pride, because 100 percent of the funds stay in Highland County.

Senate Bill 5 was passed in House Wednesday, 53-44, after hours of debate over the controversial bill that seeks to limit collective bargaining or public employees.
 The Republican-introduced has been signed by Gov. John Kasich.

 Ohio 86th District Rep. Cliff Rosenberger (R-Clarksville) told The Highland County Press he voted for the bill.

The Ohio Fourth District Court of Appeals has upheld a judgment from the Highland County Common Pleas Court regarding a re-sentencing hearing an post-release control for a man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
 According to the decision posted online Friday by the court of appeals, Timothy J. Taylor represented himself during the appeal, in which he "attack(ed) various aspects of the length of his sentence, including the court’s ability to impose consecutive and non-minimum sentences.

Greenfield has been awarded $500,000 in funds from the Ohio Department of Development to be utilized in wastewater treatment plan upgrades.
 "The investments made today will ensure a safe and sanitary living environment for these communities," said William J. Graves, Director of the Department's Community Development Division. "Proper infrastructure is the foundation for economic growth and the health of Ohio's communities."

The Highland County Society for Children and Adults, and the Rotary clubs in both Hillsboro and Greenfield are gearing up for the 39th Annual Rotary Telethon, scheduled for Wednesday, March 31.
 The event will once again be hosted by Ernie Blankenship. The Hillsboro telethon will be held from 6-10 p.m. at U.S. Bank, and the Greenfield event will be held at McClain High School.

At least three fire departments responded to a barn fire on Concord Road Monday afternoon. 

The metal structure caught fire at approximately 3:30 p.m. Monday, and Hillsboro Fire and Rescue responded, with Marshall and Mowrystown fire departments providing mutual aid. 

Further information was not immediately available, as crews were dispatched to a grass fire on Reno Lane near Berrysville following the Concord Road fire.

Two people were killed and one other was injured in a one-vehicle crash Saturday, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, on state Route 73 south in Washington Township.
 According to the post, at approximately 10:22 p.m., a red 2000 Ford F-150 was traveling southeast on state Route 73 when it allegedly failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the right side of the roadway, and struck several trees.
