Howland nets 31 as Indians fall to North Adams in 7-point loss

The Hillsboro Indians hosted the North Adams Green Devils in a non-conference showdown at Hillsboro High School on Monday night, where it was the visiting Green Devils traveling back to Adams County with a seven-point win by a 57-50 score.
North Adams (1-0) — of the Southern Hills Athletic Conference — led 17-10 after the first quarter against Hillsboro of the Frontier Athletic Conference. HHS rallied back and won the second frame at 18-13 for a halftime score of 30-28 where NAHS was in front.
In the third quarter, the Green Devils outscored Hillsboro by one point at 13-12, and in the final quarter it was North Adams scoring 14 points and Hillsboro scoring 10 points.
The Indians (0-2) were led by junior Jack Howland with 31 points. Howland made 10 two-point baskets and one 3-pointer, plus he was 8-of-8 from the free-throw line. The junior also finished with five rebounds, one assist and two steals.
Brady Juillerat ended the game with six points, nine rebounds, two assists and one steal for the Indians. Teammate Mason Dumpert totaled five points, six rebounds and two assists. The Indians also had three points from Tre Captain, as he also collected three rebounds, three assists and two steals.
Hillsboro’s Weston Kibler finished with two points, while Jeven Hochstuhl also scored two points and added one rebound and four steals. Dawson Barnett of HHS finished with one point, one rebound and one assist.
As a team, the Indians’ totals were 25 rebounds (eight offensive), nine assists, nine steals and they had 11 turnovers. HHS shot 41.5 percent from the field and 75 percent from the free-throw line, as they went 15-of-20.
For North Adams, their leading scorer was Carson Davis with 23 points, as he also had eight rebounds, one assist, three steals and one block.
Jesse Kennedy of NAHS finished with 15 points, five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. North Adams also saw Thaddeus Moore score 10 points, plus add five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block.
Colin Tolle finished with four points and seven rebounds. Preston Call ended the game with three points, two rebounds and three assists. Dalton Pence finished with two points, two rebounds and three assists.
For the game, the Green Devils totaled 27 rebounds, 14 assists, four steals and three blocks. The Green Devils also committed 11 turnovers. NAHS shot 44.4 percent from the field at 20-of-45 and made eight 3-pointers, as they had five from Kennedy and one each made by Moore, Davis and Call.
The loss sends the Indians to an 0-2 overall record, and they are scheduled to play next on Tuesday, Dec. 9 on the road in non-conference action against the Waverly Tigers at 7:30 p.m.
