Hillsboro earns FAC road win at Miami Trace

The Hillsboro Lady Indians not only scored 50-plus points in their Frontier Athletic Conference win Wednesday over the Miami Trace Lady Panthers, but they played a solid defensive effort too. 

The Lady Indians in their conference road win held Miami Trace scoreless in the second quarter, and kept MTHS to single-digit scoring in two other quarters on their way to a 51-22 victory in Fayette County at Miami Trace High School. 

Hillsboro led 11-8 in the first quarter, then clamped down defensively with a 10-0 second frame for a halftime lead of 21-8. 

The third frame was played close on the scoreboard with Hillsboro garnering 12 points and the Lady Panthers posting 10 points in the third for a 33-18 score after three quarters. The final quarter saw HHS add 18 points in the fourth, while MTHS was held to four points. 

Hillsboro had a double-double from Tylee Davis, who finished the game with 13 points and 13 rebounds. She nearly had double figures in steals by totaling eight for the game, along with two assists. The junior was 2-of-3 from the 3-point line and 3-of-4 in her free-throw attempts. 

Sophomore Ella Jordan totaled 11 points, eight rebounds, one steal and one block. Jordan made five two-point baskets and was 1-of-1 from the free-throw line. Teammate Kobie Miles — a senior — finished with 11 points, as she scored all 11 of her points from the free-throw line, going 11-of-12 in her attempts. Miles also had one rebound and two steals. 

HHS also had six points from Taylor Ann-Scruggs, who made one basket from the field and went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Scruggs also collected three rebounds, one steal and a block. 

Parker Wilkin totaled four points for Hillsboro, making two shots from the field, plus she added three rebounds and one steal to her final totals. Piper Wilkin scored three points with a 3-pointer, plus collected three rebounds, had six assists and two steals. 

Annia Young scored two points with a basket, plus had seven rebounds (three offensive), with one assist, three steals and one block. Kylee-Ann Scruggs scored one point, plus added one rebound to her totals for the FAC win. 

As a team, the Lady Indians made 11 two-point baskets, three 3-pointers (Davis 2, Piper Wilkin 1), 39 rebounds (eight offensive), nine assists, 18 steals and three blocks, plus HHS had 29 turnovers. 

Miami Trace was led by Gracie Lovett with 13 points. As a team, the Lady Panthers finished with 14 rebounds (four offensive), three assists, 13 steals, and they had 23 turnovers. 
MTHS also had scoring from Zoey Grooms (3), Alison Reeves (4) and Cali Kirkpatrick (2). 

Hillsboro now stands at 1-0 in the FAC and 3-1 overall. Miami Trace has an overall record of 1-2 with an 0-1 mark in the FAC. 

Hillsboro is scheduled to play again on Saturday, Dec. 6 on the road at Chillicothe in FAC action, then on Sunday, Dec. 7 against North Union (HHS is the away team) in an invitational event held at Ohio Dominican University at 1 p.m.
