Highland County Sports Recap: Oct. 13-14

The following are recaps from recent soccer and volleyball games.
FRIDAY, OCT. 13
VOLLEYBALL
WHS Lady ’Cats win at Ripley
The Whiteoak Lady Wildcats ended their regular season with a Southern Hills Athletic Conference win on the road against the Ripley Lady Blue Jays.
WHS won sets one, three and four by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 29-27. The Lady Blue Jays won the second set with a score of 25-22.
No WHS stats were submitted or posted online.
The win moved Whiteoak to 9-4 in the SHAC Division II standings, finishing in second place. Overall, the Lady ’Cats finished 13-8 for the regular season.

BOYS SOCCER
Fairfield Lions fall to Zane Trace
The Fairfield Lions boys soccer team wrapped up their regular-season schedule with a non-conference home loss to the Zane Trace Pioneers, 6-2.
The two goals scored by the Lions were scored by juniors Zane Matthews and Logan McIntosh.
Assists were credited to junior Dane Hodson and senior Daniel Ward.
At goal for the Lions were junior Carson Jenkins with two saves and Matthews with one save.
The loss sends FHS to a 5-12-0 overall record, and this season the Lions finished 4-3-0 in the SHAC standings, finishing in fourth place.
The Lions will play again on Thursday, Oct. 19 in a Division III sectional game on the road against Ironton St. Joe with a 6 p.m. start.

GIRLS SOCCER
Lady Lions win by 9 goals against Zane Trace
The Fairfield Lady Lions ended their 2023 regular season with a huge non-conference win on their home field, defeating the Zane Trace Lady Pioneers, 10-1.
Winning at Fairfield High School, the Lady Lions had two players score four goals each, as those players were senior Faith Donley and senior Kennedy Zink.
Scoring one goal each were sophomore Mya McIntosh and junior Ginny Trent.
Donley also had three assists, and freshman Emerson Zink had one assist.
On defense at the goal, keeper Meri Jackson totaled five saves.
The Lady Lions end the regular season at 12-3-1 overall, and in SHAC play, Fairfield finished the conference year at 5-1-0, second place in the SHAC.
Next for the Lady Lions is a Division III sectional final game on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at home against the visiting Piketon Redstreaks at 6 p.m.

VOLLEYBALL (TOURNAMENT)
Hillsboro ends season with loss to Waverly
In four sets on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14), the Hillsboro Lady Indians lost their sectional semifinal game to the host Waverly Lady Tigers, seeing their 2023 season come to a close.
Hillsboro won the second set at 25-21, but lost set one at 25-23, set three 25-21 and set four 25-19.
The Lady Indians finish the season at 5-18 overall, and in the Frontier Athletic Conference they end with a 1-9 mark.
Hillsboro’s seniors are Coralee Akers, Bell Perkins and Halle Reveal.
