Midland man sentenced in Highland County drug possession case

A Midland man was sentenced recently to community control, plus 30 days in jail, after pleading guilty to a drug possession charge in Highland County.

As previously reported, James W. Marcum, 43, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in March and charged with one count of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, a third-degree felony. 

The indictment alleged that on or about July 27, Marcum “knowingly obtained, possessed or used” meth in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.

Marcum pleaded guilty to the charge May 12, according to court records.

During a sentencing hearing June 10, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss ordered Marcum to serve 30 days in the Highland County Jail. The judge sentenced Marcum to three years of community control. Marcum was additionally ordered to successfully complete the STAR Program and recommended aftercare.
