The Ohio High School Athletic Association Board of Directors approved the 2024 football divisional breakdowns and regional assignments Thursday during its April board meeting.

On Tuesday, McClain High School hosted a boys and girls tri-meet against Lynchburg-Clay and Miami Trace. 

Language in the 2024-25 NFHS Swimming and Diving Rules Book will be changed in an effort to ensure consistent notification protocols when violations regarding swimming attire are detected.

McClain didn’t hold back in the scoring column on Tuesday night (April 23) against the Chillicothe Cavaliers in Greenfield, defeating the visitors in their Frontier Athletic Conference game by an 11-9 score.

A strong three-day showing by Shawnee State senior golfer Erika Martin allowed the senior from Greenfield, Ohio to claim a fantastic showing inside the top 10 following the third and final day of the River States Conference Championships Tuesday for the eight women's golf programs that competed for the conference crown in 2024 — with Martin's three-day score of 255 placing the senior inside the top 10 and allowing the lead golfer to pick up Second-Team All-RSC accolades as a result.

The McClain Lady Tigers held a two-run lead after five innings by a 6-4 score, but the host Chillicothe Lady Cavaliers sparked a two-inning, three-run rally in the sixth and seventh innings, leading to a 7-6 Lady Cavaliers win over McClain. 

The score between the Chillicothe Cavaliers and the visiting McClain Tigers was tied at 3-3 after four innings, but went the way of the host Cavaliers in the fifth as they broke out for eight runs in the inning, ultimately leading to a 11-3 loss for the Tigers, Monday (April 22). 

Hillsboro High School’s track and field program hosted an invitational Friday, April 19, with 13 different high schools — including four from Highland County — represented.

On Friday night, the McClain Tigers lost on the road at VA Memorial Stadium to Wheelersburg in five innings by a 11-1 score. 

Seventeen was the lucky number for the McClain Lady Tigers on Thursday night (April 18), with MHS going on the road and defeating the host Paint Valley Lady Bearcats, 17-5 in non-conference action at PVHS.

The McClain varsity baseball team picked up a hard-earned and well-played victory over a very good Huntington team Thursday night but had to hang on at the end, winning 5-4.

On Tuesday in Greenfield, the Panthers, behind senior Brady Armstrong, shut out the Tigers, 7-0.

Joe B. Stewart is now a “Rocket Man,” so to speak, as he has been named the new varsity boys basketball head coach for the Fayetteville Rockets. Thursday evening saw the Fayetteville-Perry Board of Education approve the recommendation of Superintendent Tim Carlier. 

After dropping a disappointing 16-4 decision at Miami Trace on Monday night with Panther starting pitcher Kaylee Everhart earning the victory on the mound and McClain senior Gracie Bowers suffering the loss, on Tuesday on Daryle Unger Memorial Field in Greenfield the tables were turned. The Lady Tigers came from behind and got a much-needed 9-4 win over their Fayette County rivals.
